Maybe It's Time To Kick Ass and Take Names With CBT. Creative Copes: Season 1, Episode 15

Updated: Apr 26, 2023

Welcome to Episode 15. In this chat fest, we are checking out Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, often referred to as CBT. This particular branch of therapy suggests that our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations and behavior are all connected. It's most important component is to help people identify and change thinking and behavior patterns that can be harmful and/or ineffective. Ultimately, figuring out the problem, seeing what you're currently doing, and finding a more effective way to achieve success.

We explore ways of doing CBT and traditional Talk Therapy, the similarities and differences, and ways that we both have experienced results through this method. We were both "prescribed" CBT for different reasons (Jen's is for mental health reasons, while Mita's is more for the chronic pain disorders) and how, when working with emotional health, there can be a very different outcome.

It is imperative to seek out a therapist who is well versed in this area, as there are some who list CBT as a specialty, after simply obtaining a certificate (which does not, in fact, a specialist make). Find someone you are comfortable working with, who you vibe well with and who shares your shared end goal. It is perfectly normal to "shop around" for the best fit. If you are being referred to a Cognitive Behavioral Specialist for chronic pain and other invisible illnesses, please use caution that it is not a way to "pawn you off" because the doctor is out of ideas in ways to help you. No one wants to hear, "This is all in your head", because it can be detrimental to your quality of life.

Remember to seek out the best course of action that fits your diagnosis and your personal path. If it is CBT, we provide some great examples of what to expect and why it may be a useful tool in your bag of tricks.

Wishing you continued success and gains on your road to Creatively Coping.

Love and Therapeutic Light, Jen ♥
