In this episode, we dive into the wide spectrum of visual arts and a way to utilize it as a Creative Cope during the difficult times. We discuss drawing, painting, pottery, jewelry making, scrapbooking, resin, and all things arts and crafts. There is a common theme among the health (physical, emotional and mental) benefits of taking part in the world of art: reducing stress, trauma healing, an outlet for aggression, a way to practice mindfulness, grounding for anxiety and panic, PTSD work, regulation of emotions, and decrease in chronic pain.... plus more.
Mita discusses what brain fog is and reminds us that buzzfuzz is not a good thing, but maybe fuzzbuzz is. Reverse, perhaps... Listen to find out which one you want and which one you try to avoid. Kind of like Almond Joy vs. Mounds. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't. We then go over what the term 'Visual Arts' actually means and we run through some different types and their health benefits. Assemblage is cool. I feel like its kind of what we are doing on this podcast: turning shit feelings into podcast gold... Trying to cope with the hard stuff and find outlets that can make life a little bit easier, by sharing what we learn and keeping the conversation going, to lessen the stigma associated with this.
Let's grab some play-doh, some clay, some paints and canvases, some paper and yarn. Make something for the sake of making it, not for the end result. You are not Picasso and no one expects you to be. Let it be fun, let it take you out of the tough moments and maybe forget some negative crap for a few.
Take a walk with us, as we laugh inappropriately through our worlds of chronic, invisible and mental illness while sharing our thoughts and views on using Visual Arts as a Creative Cope. We hope you enjoy the episode and gain another tool for your Warrior Toolbox.
Love and light and until next time... Jen ♥
